Crispy Parmesan and Gruyere Potato Gratin

Today, we embark on a tasty journey to introduce you to the exquisite Crispy Parmesan and Gruyere Potato Gratin. While we won’t reveal the full recipe just yet, we will tantalize your taste buds with insights into the key ingredients and preparation techniques that make this dish exceptional.

The Role of Potatoes

Potatoes are the heart and soul of any potato gratin. Their starchiness and ability to absorb flavors make them the ideal canvas for culinary creativity. When sliced thinly and layered, they transform into tender, melt-in-the-mouth perfection.

The Melting Magic of Gruyere

Gruyere, a cheese renowned for its creamy, nutty, and slightly sweet profile, is the key to achieving that irresistible, gooey texture in your gratin. Its meltability complements the potatoes, creating a harmonious partnership.

Parmesan – The Crispy Crown

Parmesan, the king of hard cheeses, brings a crispy, golden crown to the gratin. It infuses a savory, salty, and slightly nutty essence, adding texture and depth to each bite.

Zipp Zapp Zopp Herb Blend – The Flavor Infusion

The Zipp Zapp Zopp Herb Blend is the secret to infusing your gratin with a burst of aromatic complexity. This herb blend, a harmonious mixture of unique herbs and spices, elevates the overall flavor profile.

Butter Infused Olive Oil – Liquid Gold

Butter-infused olive oil, often referred to as “liquid gold” by culinary aficionados, adds richness and depth to the gratin. Its delicate buttery notes enhance the overall taste without overwhelming it.

To achieve that coveted crispy crown, a quick broil at the end is essential. It turns the Parmesan into a luscious, golden crust, ensuring your gratin is a feast for both the eyes and the palate. This dish is a celebration of textures and flavors, a journey that promises to delight your senses. From slicing potatoes to achieving the perfect golden crust, your taste buds are in for a treat.

1 tsp of Fresh Thyme

  1. Preheat the oven to 325˚F.
  2. In a small saucepan add the cream, salt, Zipp Zapp Zopp Herb Blend and garlic. Bring to a simmer on low heat a cook for 5 minutes. This will allow the garlic flavor to infuse the cream. Remove from the heat and set to the side.
  3. Thinly slice the potatoes to 1/8 inch thickness using a mandolin slicer.

  5. Arrange the sliced potatoes in a spiral pattern on top of the cooked shallots. Pour the cream mixture over top of the potatoes.
  6. Cover the cast iron pan tightly with a piece of tin foil. Place the cast iron pan into the oven and bake for 1 hr and 15 minutes.
  7. Remove the pan from the oven and turn the oven temperature to broil.
  8. Cover the potatoes with the grated Gruyere and Parmesan cheeses. Sprinkle with the thyme. Place the cast iron pan into the oven and broil for 5 minutes until the cheese is crispy and bubbling.
